Acer refreshes Aspire Switch 10 and Switch 11 hybrid laptops
Acer has just finished revealing its 2015 product line-up at its #keepasking event in New York, where the company reaffirmed its commitment to hybrid laptops with an entire range of Aspire Switch devices. The Aspire Switch 10 and Switch 11 are both getting a facelift, and will be joined by a premium Switch 12 soon.
As with previous Switch models , the revised line-up are Windows-powered tablets that dock with a bundled keyboard to transform into touchscreen laptops for serious work or fast typing. The new look Switch 10 E has an improved hinge that makes it easier to detach the laptop from its keyboard to use in tablet mode. In addition to a textured finish designed to improve grip, the device will arrive in a choice of six bright colours which should help it stand out from the grey and black hybrids we've seen from other manufacturers.
Acer is claiming users should see up to 12 hours of battery life from a single charge, using an Intel Atom processor and 2GB of RAM to power Windows 8.
A more premium version, the Switch 10 SW5-015 , upgrades the 1,280x800 resolution display found on the Switch 10 E for a Full HD 1,920x1,200 resolution screen, and exchanges the textured back cover for reinforced Gorilla Glass, although battery life drops to an expected seven hours of video playback.
The Aspire Switch 11 's larger 11.6in display is geared more towards productivity, and should also have a Full HD resolution. The device itself is built from aluminium and uses a more powerful Intel Core M processor, although exact details have yet to be revealed.
The Switch 10 will start from £280 when it arrives in the UK in the coming months, while the Switch 11 is set to cost £500. We should have some hands-on impressions of both models later this afternoon. Little is known about the Switch 12 right now, as Acer appears not to have yet nailed down final specifications, but we should expect it to arrive later in the year.
