Report: Apple is adding a glossy ‘Space Black’ color to the iPhone 7

In case you haven’t heard, Apple has a new iPhone coming out really soon. The leaks have been pouring out, and now there’s one more: Apple is adding a second shade of black to the line up.

A leak from Mac Otakara suggests Apple will be adding a ‘Space Black’ to complement the more common ‘Space Grey’ Apple has used on various products. It won’t be replacing Space Grey, but will compliment it instead.

More than just a deeper shade, this would be Apple’s first metal iPhone to not use a soft finish. Instead it will use a metal gloss reminiscent of Apple’s Mac Pro (AKA, ‘the trash can’).

It seems a bit odd that Apple would have two different dark shades in it’s line-up, but a glossy metal finish would at least be a nice change of pace after so many competitors have adopted its overall color scheme.

Rejoice, vinyl-loving DJs! Panasonic is making the world’s most popular turntables again

I grew up trying my hand at DJing (and am old enough that CD decks didn’t really exist when I started out, let alone MP3s) and while there were always a whole lot of different turntables to choose from, there was only really one choice worth making – Panasonic’s Technics SL-1200 model.

It was an industry standard for turntablists the world over, and then in 2010 (as the vinyl market continued to suffer) Panasonic said it was going to stop making the world’s most popular decks.

Now, more than five years on and with vinyl seeing a resurgence in popularity , Panasonic has dusted off the old design and will resume selling them again from later this year, although it hasn’t said exactly when.

The new model has an updated motor, which Panasonic says makes it quieter and reduces vibrations (known as ‘cogging’), resulting in an overall better sound output.

There will actually be two new models, but the 50th anniversary edition (Grand Class SL-1200GAE) is limited to just 1,200 units.

Pricing hasn’t been announced, but I’m going to just go ahead and start saving now.

Turn your Raspberry Pi into a Flickr upload machine

In March, Flickr lost a lot of love among its fans when it began charging $5.99 a month for the ability to automatically upload photos from the desktop .

That’s a bummer for those who enjoy the Yahoo-owned service and its free 1TB of storage space. But if you’re keen on beating the system and getting your photos into the cloud without shelling out for Flickr’s Pro plan, this Raspberry Pi project is for you.

Developer Eduardo Balsa’s Flickrup utilizes a Python script to automatically upload images from a USB drive or storage card to your account, with viewing rights set to Private. Once it’s done, it’ll alert you via email with a log file and unmount the storage device so you can remove it. How nifty is that?

All you need is a spare Raspberry Pi and the Flickrup project files – which are available on Balsa’s GitHub repository – and a little free time to set it up.
