Skreens turns your TV into a media hub with multiple simultaneous feeds
Skreens is a Kickstarter success story that raised over $470,000 in funding and delivered one hell of a demo at CES.
Skreens is a two or four-port hub that connects multiple HDMI devices. So, if you want to watch a movie, play Playstation 4, watch a Twitter feed and get a real-time ESPN ticker at the bottom of your screen for all the latest sports scores, you can. In addition, you can move these windows around, resize them or choose from one of half a dozen or so pre-made on-screen layouts.
These layouts are created, or selected using a PC (Windows or Mac) or mobile device.
Even more impressive, you can daisy chain the hubs to get even more feeds and layout options.
8? 12? 16? No problem.
We asked Marc Todd, the founder and CEO of Skreens, if there is a limit to the number of simultaneous feeds before performance deteriorates and he answered confidently, “If there is, we haven’t found it yet. If the feeds are Web-based, there may be some slowing due to the Wi-Fi connection, but otherwise, we haven’t maxed it out yet.”
Todd said:
If you’re a multimedia junkie, you can get your hands on your own hub for $249 (two port) or $449 (four port) when they begin shipping in March.

It’s up to you and Reddit to keep this plant alive
We’ve previously seen people cater to their pets over the Internet with the help of interactive systems for remote control like the Nest Cam and Furbo , but the project PleaseTakeCareOfMyPlant puts a whole new spin on this technology.
Developed by redditor tylerjaywood , it’s interactive remote control setup designed to take care of this houseplant located at his apartment.
But here’s the catch: instead of automating the system, tylerjaywood has left it up to Reddit to decide whether his plant will be watered or not.
You can decide the plant’s fate by heading to the subreddit dedicated to the project where they can vote whether the plant should be watered on any given day.
A new thread will be posted everyday where users can indicate their votes by simply responding with ‘yes’ or ‘no’. At the end of each day, the votes will be counted. Based on the outcome, the system will proceed to either water the plant or deny it of sustenance.
To make this more exciting, tylerjaywood has also integrated a webcam stream on the website where you can watch all of this happen in real-time.
The system is powered by a Raspberry Pi Computer with a custom program that you can peruse on this GitHub repository .
Vote whether or not you want the plant to be watered today here . Or go see how well the plant is doing right now on the webcam stream here .
