Amazon Kindle Unlimited 'Netflix for books' arrives in UK

Over 650,000 books and thousands of audiobooks are now available in the UK as Amazon launches its Kindle Unlimited subscription service. Described as a 'Netflix for books' it gives subscribers access to a huge library of titles for £7.99 a month.

Kindle Unlimited, which launched in the US earlier this year , is available on a 30-day free trial from today and features books from authors including JK Rowling, Eleanor Catton, Mark Forsyth, Karin Slaughter and P.D. James.

As well as access to over 650,000 books Kindle Unlimited also includes thousands of Audible audiobooks. Around 2,000 titles are available including The Hunger Games, Life of Pi and classics such as Wuthering Heights and Treasure Island. All audiobooks also support Amazon Whispersync so subscribers can start listening on one device and pick up from the same place on another.

Kindle Unlimited is linked to an individual Kindle account but can be accessed on just about any device including iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, Windows phone, PC, Mac and Windows 8. A number of novellas from Stephen King, Carol Drinkwater, Susan Hill and Andrew Taylor are also included as part of a 'Short Reads' section along with Kindle-exclusive titles from a range of authors.

"With unlimited access to hundreds of thousands of titles, Kindle Unlimited offers by far the simplest and most cost-effective way to explore and discover ebooks and audiobooks together, and you can even switch from reading to listening without losing your place," said Kindle EU vice president Jorrit Van der Meulen.

Any Kindle ebooks or audiobooks included in the Kindle Unlimited service will have a 'Read for £0.00' tag next to them. For more information and to start a free trial visit the Kindle Unlimited website .
